Melia Caribe Tropical
North American, European, South American, and Dominican families and couples come to this all-suites resort. They pack swimwear for the turquoise sea and resort wear for starlit evenings strolling on paths bordered by gardens so lush they nearly conceal the resort’s low-rise buildings.
The Melia Caribe Tropical offers seven pools, including two large, free form pools with swim-up bars; two activity pools; one children’s pool; two health spas with pools—one containing a spa treatments and the other a fitness center with cabins for massages (surcharges)—and both offering men’s and women’s saunas, steam rooms, and hot-water spa tub. The resort offers a disco and two theaters presenting nightly shows featuring the resort’s talented dancers.
Not long after sunrise, savvy guests claim poolside, thatch-roof palapas shading platforms upon which rest thick, bed-like pads wide enough to accommodate a family. (Dozens of smaller palapas around the pools and on the beach are a consolation to latecomers.)
The majority of amenities, activities, and gratuities at Melia Caribe Tropical All Inclusive are included.
A scarlet-carpeted casino (open from evening until late night) offers 40 slot machines, six blackjack tables, four roulette tables, and two Caribbean-poker tables. Six pools, two discos, and two theaters are also on site.
The resort presents a “Flintstones” children’s program, featuring The Baby Rock Club (4 months – 4 years old) and the Bam Bam Club with a fun park and stone lake (ages 5–12); teenagers (ages 13–17) can play at an arcade and dance at a disco for two hours in the early evening.
Bavaro Beach is the point of departure for glass-bottom boats, disco-party boats, and snorkeling excursions (surcharges).
The resort provides a complimentary roundtrip shuttle to the Palma Real Shopping Village next door. The village has many stores, restaurants/bars, and gift/accessory shops.
Guest suites feature a separate sitting area set off by an arch and furnished with a couch and an upholstered chair and stool. A pink marble vanity and desk contrast with pale marble floors. Bathrooms contain a tub/shower combination. For a fee, an in-room safe protects valuables. The resort purifies water but recommends drinking bottled water provided in the room.
Golf suites are located in five two-story villas, across the road from the main resort, and are surrounded by the Cocotal Golf and Country Club.
